 | | ABOUT
My first exposure to blowing glass happened while pursuing my metalsmithing degree at the University of Kansas. I was immediately drawn to the vivid colors and spontaneity of glass. With two semesters under my belt, the university closed the glass program but it was too late, I was hooked. With limited knowledge and the energy of a 21 year old, I built my own glass studio from scratch and from there began my career in the field of glass. This journey would take my work through galleries and collections around the world.
In the late nineties, I used my metalsmithing and glassblowing skills to design a series of water features that have been procured for private and institutional collections throughout the world. The popularity of this series has kept me busy for the last ten years. Also from this union of glass and steel came my work on the subject of birds. For the last eight years they have become the perfect medium for my love of color, steel and glass. Birds have proven to be vibrant works of my imagination as well as realistic creations of nature. Always striving to be playful, I want the joy that comes from the process of creativity to be shared through my work.
I view my style of art as having drawn from American Folk art tradition, applied a fresh perspective while still utilizing old world Italian glassblowing techniques. This formula allows me to find a balance between old and new, elegant and whimsy, refinement and spontaneity.
